Fiber Use in Roofing Systems

Roof coatings is essential for obvious reasons.  Firstly, roof coatings provide an extra layer of protection against the elements. They act as a barrier between the roof and harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, and UV rays. This added protection helps to extend the lifespan of the roof by preventing damage from occurring.

Secondly, roof coatings can help to reduce energy costs. Many roof coatings are designed to reflect sunlight, which can significantly reduce the amount of heat absorbed by the building. This means that less energy is required to cool the building during hot summer months, resulting in lower energy bills.

Furthermore, roof coatings can also improve the aesthetics of a building. They come in a variety of colors and finishes, allowing for customization to match any architectural style or design preference. A well-maintained and visually appealing roof can enhance curb appeal and increase property value.

Lastly, using roof coatings is an environmentally friendly choice. By reducing energy consumption and extending the lifespan of roofs, they contribute to sustainability efforts by minimizing waste and reducing carbon emissions.

There are many different roofing coatings products to make a complete roofing system protecting our buildings.  Fiber X Pro offers various cellulose fibers for Acrylic Roof Coatings, Adhesive and Sealants, Aluminum Roof Coatings, Asphalt Roof Cement, Asphalt Roof Coatings, Butyl Caulk, Butyl Tape and White Roof Coatings.

Acrylic Roof Coatings

Incorporating cellulose fibers into acrylic roof coatings offers numerous advantages including improved tensile strength, enhanced adhesion properties, and increased thermal insulation capabilities. These benefits make cellulose fiber-reinforced acrylic roof coatings an excellent choice for protecting roofs from environmental damage while providing energy efficiency benefits for buildings.

Customer Goal
The introduction of cellulose fibers is used maintain sag resistance, add flexibility, resist cracking, hold less dust and reduce material cost.

Fiber X Pro Answer

CreaFill TC 2004 when added at a 3 to 5 percent will provide good application by trowel, brush, spray or rolling application.

Adhesive and Sealants

Incorporating cellulose fiber into adhesive formulations offers numerous advantages such as improved bonding strength, enhanced viscosity control, and reduced environmental impact. As industries strive for more sustainable solutions without compromising performance, it is clear that cellulose fiber-based adhesives will continue to play a significant role in various applications.

Customer Goal
Reduction of formulation costs while maintaining performance is the goal.  The high-cost thixotropic agents can be reduced by replacing them with cellulose fibers without changing it properties or appearance.  The cellulose fiber works both as a thickener and in a 3-D state gives reinforcement and strength.

Fiber X Pro Answer

Use of various CreaFill fibers depending on the type of adhesive or sealant.  The CreaFill line of fibers is inert and does not become part of the chemistry.  A small amount of fiber can increase viscosity, reduce slump and shrinkage while increasing strength.

TC 204 added at a 1 – 3 percent by weight increases tear resistance, increase volume solids while reducing total weight, promotes bridging effect, prevent mud-cracking and alligator surfaces.  There is no significant color change.

Aluminum Roof Coatings

Cellulose fibers are essential components in manufacturing aluminum roof coatings due to their strength, flexibility, waterproofing capabilities, and fire resistance. By incorporating these fibers into the coating material, manufacturers can produce high-quality products that offer enhanced durability and protection for roofs while contributing to energy efficiency in buildings.

Customer Goal
The incorporation of cellulose fibers will improve the suspension of aluminum, rheology and increase the orientation of the aluminum when making the asphalt film.

Fiber X Pro Answer

CreaFill TC 2004 when added at a 4 percent by weight of the finished product will improve the sag resistance and orientation of the aluminum in the asphalt film.  It will greatly reduce the hard-pack settling while in the container.

Asphalt Roof Cement

Cellulose fibers are essential additives used in manufacturing asphalt roof cement due to their remarkable properties such as high tensile strength, improved workability, and enhanced thermal stability. Their inclusion ensures that roofs are protected from external elements while providing long-lasting durability and sustainability to structures.

Customer Goal
There is a need to greatly reduce trowel resistance when applying asphalt roof cement.  The cellulose fiber absorbs the asphalt while keeping the other components of the add mix suspended.

Fiber X Pro Answer

At a 4 – 5 percent by weight addition the addition of CreaFill TC 2004 or 1004/5 with attapulgite clay and surfactants can provide an economical, green and sustainable alternative to other high-cost products.

Asphalt Roof Coatings

Incorporating cellulose fibers into asphalt roof coatings offers several advantages such as increased tensile strength, enhanced structural integrity, improved thermal insulation properties, and environmental sustainability. Using, green, sustainable and renewable natural cellulose fibers can significantly enhance the performance and longevity of roofing systems while minimizing their impact on our planet.

Customer Goal
The addition cellulose fibers allow you to control the film thickness, strength and rheology while reducing slumping and sagging especially when applying it to the coves.  In addition, the fibers will add flexibility and prevent cracking.

Fiber X Pro Answer

CreaFill TC 2004 at a 3 percent addition rate with attapulgite clay and surfactants can provide an economical, green and sustainable alternative to other high-cost products.

Butyl Caulk

Utilizing cellulose fibers in the production of butyl caulk presents an innovative solution that addresses both environmental concerns and performance requirements. By embracing this sustainable alternative, we can contribute towards creating a greener future while maintaining high-quality construction standards.

Customer Goal
The goal is to lower your formulation cost by replacing them with a cellulose fiber.  You also want to maintain sag and crack resistance while improving flexibility and flow.

Fiber X Pro Answer

CreaFill TC 1004/5 can greatly reduce the cost by replacing high-cost synthetic fiber.  In addition to the cost benefit you gain by using green and sustainable cellulose fibers that are safe and non-hazardous.

Butyl Tape

The incorporation of cellulose fiber into the manufacturing process of butyl tape offers numerous benefits such as improved strength, enhanced insulation properties, and reduced environmental impact. As industries strive towards sustainability and eco-friendly practices, this innovation represents a significant step forward in creating products that are both effective and environmentally responsible.

White Roof Coatings

The use of cellulose fiber in white wood coatings offers several advantages including enhanced mechanical properties, improved opacity, and better flow characteristics. As sustainability becomes increasingly important in various industries, utilizing this renewable resource provides an eco-friendly solution without compromising performance.
